Courtesy Visit by Representatives from the Office of the Director-General for Health

Jul 11, 2025

On July 11, 2025, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) was honored to host a distinguished delegation from the Office of the Director-General for Health. The visiting team included: Dr. Rachel Nyamai (National Referral Division), Dr. Saleh Bardad (Head of Clinical Services), Beatrice R. Rotich (ADCS), and Sylvia Ayiiso (Head of Curative and Nursing Division).

The purpose of the visit was to assess the quality of patient care, with particular focus on bed capacity and occupancy at NSIRH.

The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku, Director of Medical Services, together with the hospital’s management team. In his remarks, Dr. Shikuku emphasized NSIRH’s unique and vital role in specialized spine care:

“We are serving Kenya, East and Central Africa, and we don’t have such a comprehensive facility in the region. We receive calls and patients from across the region. We have a masterplan for 350 beds and have registered for ISO 7101:2023 and ISO 15189:2022.”

Following the discussions, the team embarked on a comprehensive guided tour of the facility.

This visit reaffirms NSIRH’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in delivering specialized spinal injury care across Kenya and the wider region.
